How will I talk to my coach?

You have the option of talking to your coach via:

• Phone
• Video call 
• Email

Choose whichever option makes you feel more comfortable.

How long will my advising session be?

Phone or video

If you choose a phone or video call, the maximum call length is 30 minutes. Average calls last between 20 and 30 minutes.

If you have any follow-up questions, TeachSC can schedule another call for you or get you in contact with the teacher you spoke with the first time.

Email

If you choose an email session, your coach will send you an initial email with advice and recommendations based on the information you share in your sign-up survey. 

You can reply once or twice with questions, and your coach will respond once or twice. 

If you still have questions, you should sign up for another coaching session and consider a phone or video conversation.

How do I schedule an appointment?

All you need to do is select a teacher you want to meet with and a convenient time for them to connect with you. Check out the next section to see the TeachSC coaches and their schedules.

Phone or video

If you select a phone session, your coach will call you at the appointment time you select.

For video, your coach will email you a Zoom link ahead of time. You'll join the Zoom call at your scheduled appointment time.

Email

If you select an email session, your “appointment time” is the time by which your coach will email you with advice, recommendations and links. So, you’ll receive an initial email no later than your scheduled appointment time, but you may get an email even sooner.

How should I prepare?

For a phone or video session, choose a call location with low background noise or that’s very quiet. If it’s a video call, try to take your call in a location with good lighting and without background distractions.

When you sign up, you’ll complete a short survey to help prepare your advisor for your conversation. If you sign up for email coaching, it’s especially important to answer the survey questions with as much detail as possible, to help your coach gather the information that will be most helpful to you. 

It's also a good idea to think through a list of your questions beforehand.
